Senior named a winner in playwright competition
Barter College recently announced the winners of its annual College Playwrights competition and senior English and Theatre major Frances Gray Riggs was named as one of the six winners. Barter’s College Play Festival (CPF) is a 10-Minute Play Festival designed to give Appalachian undergraduate college students a professional experience. Selected student playwrights will have the opportunity to develop their play with professional Barter artists as well as attend workshops and meet professional playwrights.
Tell It Right by Riggs, as well as the five other winning plays, will be read on Sunday, March 3 at noon at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia.
In addition to her double majors, Frances Gray is minoring in Creative Writing. When not at school she resides in Denton, North Carolina but loves to visit her family in the mountains of Wise, Virginia. She has been awarded the Caroline Sanderson Acting Award and the Emily Crandall Shaw Scholarship in Liberal Arts. She is currently President of the English Honors Society (Sigma Tau Delta) at Wake Forest University. Her hobbies include singing, Irish Dance, kayaking, and telling a good story. She is honored and grateful to be a part of the Barter Theatre’s College Playwrights Festival.
